Janet here, in Catania, Italy. Last week I was coming home from a nice visit to Siracusa and I got stuck in the Sant’Agata crowd. Sant’Agata is Catania’s patron saint, and her Saint’s Day, February 5, is the most celebrated day of the year here in Catania. As you can see, devotees wear white robes, black caps, carry candles, and cart the Saint’s effigy and relics through the streets. Hundreds of thousands more turn out to watch them pass by.
